GUARDIAN HOME INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS
Guardian Home Information and Requirements Document
A Guardian Home is a unique way to experience pet ownership. To qualify, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN 2 HOURS OF FOREVER FRENCHIES (North Branch, MN). You must own your home, and have proper facilities to care for a dog. Guardian ownership allows people to get one of our French Bulldogs at a steeply discounted price. The way it works is that a puppy or adult is placed with a foster family, who pays a smaller fee than a normal purchase. The guardian family will be expected to care for the dog, within set guidelines, and expenses will be split as described later in this document.During the breeding life of the dog, it will remain in sole ownership of Forever Frenchies. Once the breeding life of the dog is completed, the ownership will transfer to the guardian family and will be theirs forever.
Some costs are split between Forever Frenchies and the guardian family. Dog food will be provided by Forever Frenchies to insure the proper nutrition for breeding and health, and the costs will be split 50/50 between Forever Frenchies and the guardian family. A yearly payment of half the food costs is an option. Forever Frenchies will also provide preventive heartworm medication and will vaccinate the dogs with Lyme, DHLP, and Bordatella. The guardian family will pay for tick/flea treatment if desired. Non-emergency veterinarian visits will be authorized by Forever Frenchies prior to making an appointment. If not authorized, the family will assume costs for the veterinarian. Medical costs due to environmental factors such as injury, ingestion of foreign objects, etc., are the responsibility of the guardian family. Any medical costs due to reproduction issues are the responsibility of Forever Frenchies. Forever Frenchies will provide grooming and boarding for the dog. If the guardian family wishes to have grooming done elsewhere, it must be approved and will be their responsibility. At NO time is the dog to have its hair cut or shaved without approval.
As soon as the female goes into season, at the first sign of blood, she will need to be kenneled at Forever Frenchies, unless prior arrangements have been made. IMPORTANT! Forever Frenchies needs to be notified immediately so breeding plans can be finalized. It takes approximately 3 weeks from the first sign of blood until they are no longer able to be bred. If the dog has been bred, she will return back to the family and will remain there until one week prior to whelping (gestation is 63 days). A special food will be provided as well as instruction and support on how to care for her. One week prior to whelping she will go back to Forever Frenchies to whelp her pups. The guardian family is most welcome to visit and will receive weekly reports through email. After the pups are weaned at 5-6 weeks, the dog will be returned to her guardian family. Note that all females lose their coats considerably about 4-8 weeks after whelping. We will breed three litters max, and usually back to back heats or skipping a single heat cycle. Forever Frenchies pays for spaying the dog when retired from breeding, regardless of number of breedings, if it is decided to retire her from breeding. Missed or unsuccessful breedings do not count as litters.
The dog may be bred up until her 5th birthday, although very unlikely. This determination is the SOLE decision of Forever Frenchies. All costs involved in breeding, as well as all profits, and ownership of puppies are the sole rights of Forever Frenchies. After breeding is finished and the dog is retired from breeding and spayed, sole ownership will be given, at no cost, to the guardian family. At that point, all costs related to the dog (medical, food, vaccinations, etc) are the sole responsibility of the owners (formerly guardian family). It is Mandatory that the dog be spayed or neutered at that time. No breeding is allowed by the family. If major medical costs are involved, prior to transfer of placement, such as the dog being diagnosed with cancer, rare diseases, etc., Forever Frenchies will contribute a maximum of $1000 towards care, dependant on the prognosis. If the Forever Frenchies owner becomes disabled or dies, breeding rights are transferred to her children for up to three more litters. If the dog is lost or dies while in the family's care, Forever Frenchies will take no action unless gross neglect is apparent. Veterinary confirmation may be requested. If the family relocates more than 2 hours from Forever Frenchies, the family will share in travel responsibility, or the dog will be returned to Forever Frenchies. If, at any time, under any circumstances, the family no longer wishes to have the dog, the dog can be returned to Forever Frenchies. No refunds are given in the case of a returned dog.
Forever Frenchies may require updates on the pet's condition as often as desired and reserves the right to visit the guardian home to verify conditions. If Forever Frenchies finds or feels any conditions that improper care is being conducted by the guardian family, it reserves the right to have the dog inspected by a veterinarian (at guardian family's expense) and/or immediately remove the dog from the premises. If a dog is removed for improper care, no refunds are given and additional charges could apply.
Forever Frenchies may provide training classes for the dog if it is deemed the dog may be of show quality. Show entries are paid by Forever Frenchies and the guardian family is welcome to participate in any shows along with Forever Frenchies.
